Shipmates,
Please accept my sincere appreciation and admiration for the remarkable job that you do, day in and day out, to serve the citizens of our country - especially those on the water in the Great Lakes. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to your family and loved ones because their love and support is essential to you being "Always Ready" to answer the call.
I hope you can take advantage of this holiday season and find some time to rest, relax and recharge as you celebrate with family and friends.
I am especially thankful for those of you that can't make it home, but are instead Standing the Watch - thanks for your steadfast dedication to duty.
As many of you know, we lost a member of our Coast Guard family, BM3 Travis Obendorf, on December 18 after he succumbed to injuries sustained during a November SAR case in Alaskan waters. Petty Officer Obendorf stood the watch on the front lines of Coast Guard operations throughout his nine years of active duty. Let us never forget his service and sacrifice, and please keep BM3 Obendorf's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
