Flags Across America 2019

During ceremonies at the 2019 Flags Across America at Arlington National Cemetery, Keith Economy shares some of the history of the Auxiliary to attendees. The Auxiliary lends Public Affairs support to the Coast Guard and organizations like the Chief Petty Officers Association which organized this event 20 years ago.

Ft Belvoir Safety Day 2019

FSO-PA Leon Nicely (center) was officially recognized by the US Army for lending Public Affairs support to the Ft. Belvoir Safety Day. He was joined by two other local area Auxiliary members, Ernie Stevens (left) and Al Stringer (right).

Active Duty service members were the attendees and target audience. The Coast Guard Public Affairs outreach promotes water safety and the Auxiliary Public Education program which was invited to teach boating safety classes for the Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR) boat rental program on Fort Belvoir.

With the growing popularity of paddle craft sports, comes the need for training. Here Joey Taguding, seen wearing the official Auxiliary paddle craft operators uniform, offers tips at a free seminar held at Cabela's in Gainesville, Virginia.

The Auxiliary paddle craft program is built upon safe practices and having fun. There are tools and techniques that can make a difference. This is an inexpensive homemade flag which is a universal distress signal.

Falling out of a kayak is predictable. Getting back in a kayak on the water can be accomplished by a beginner with a little preparation and practice.

There's a lot to learn. Qualified Auxiliary instructors, like Joey Taguding, stand ready to support the boating public with training and materials.

The Paddle Craft program is the fastest growing program in the Auxiliary. Come join the fun!

The Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard posted colors for the event and stopped by the Auxiliary booth.

Auxiliary Partners With Cabela's to Support Hurricane Harvey Relief

Vice Flotilla Commander, Keith Economy, accepts donations from Cabela's patrons for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. In addition, Cabela's donated free fishing waders to the Coast Guard "Punt" teams deploying to flood stricken areas. Thank you!

Alexandria Seaport Day

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation sponsors "at risk" youth and the annual Alexandria Seaport Day. Nearby is their barge with a complete woodworking shop where young people learn to make sail boats. Young people are building more than sea worthy vessels, they're learning old world "ship wright" skills, gaining confidence to take control of their future.

National Memorial Day Parade

Each year, Coast Guard and Auxiliary members march together in the National Memorial Day parade to honor our nation's fallen service members.

Family Day at the National Targeting Center

U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Coast Guard are members of the same Department of Homeland Security family, so when the National Targeting Center had a "family day", Bob Brino and Guy Campbell brought along Sammy the Sea Otter. Sammy wears his life jacket to remind children to remind their parents to wear them.
