Flotilla 05-04 City Island
Margaret A. Millar "Peg"
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Auxiliarist Margaret A. Millar known to her shipmates as "Peg". Margaret was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 12 years starting out in Flotilla 06-08 Yonkers and transferred to 05-04 City Island in February 2019. She was a dedicated member serving in many roles such as Flotilla Staff Officer for Diversity, Public Affairs, Finance, Program Visitation and Secretary. She was qualified as a Marine Dealer visitor, a program she enjoyed very much as she loved to interact with the people.
Margaret was also very active in District wide special events having participates in multiple NYC Boat Shows, Fleet Weeks, and marching in the NYC St Patrick's Day and Veteran Day Parades.
This is a tremendous loss to our organization. Please keep her family and the men and women in Flotilla 05-04 in your prayers.

Flotilla 05-03 Lower Manhattan
It is with great sadness to announce the sudden passing of Auxiliarist Andrew A Thurman. Andrew was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 7 years in Flotilla 05-03 Lower Manhattan Flotilla. He was a dedicated member serving in many roles such as Vice Flotilla Commander, Division Staff Officer for Vessel Exams, Assistant District Staff Officer for Public Affairs and Coast Guard Auxiliary Association - E Commerce Specialist. He held multiple qualifications such as AUXOP, Vessel Examiner, Program Visitor, Instructor, and Telecommunications Operator.
Andy was a knowledgeable boater/sailor who put his skills and experience to help educate the boating public. This is a tremendous loss to our organization. Please keep his family and the men and women in Flotilla 05-03 in your prayers.

AUXILIARIST FRED KNOX
July 26th 1958 - December 17th, 2020
Flotilla 05-11 Upper Manhattan
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our shipmate AUX Fred Knox. Mr. Knox was a founding member of our flotilla, a consummate volunteer, and a friend to all. In 2006, Mr. Knox joined the Auxiliary and immediately became an enthusiastic and active member.
During his service, he qualified as an Auxiliary Culinary Specialist, Auxiliary Telecommunications Operator, Vessel Examiner, and Program Visitor. Mr. Knox regularly volunteered on U.S. Coast Guard cutters and stations to cook for active and reserve personnel. Mr. Knox also took part in local ceremonies and functions, including critical assistance during a World War I Bicentennial ceremony honoring the 369th Infantry Regiment “Harlem Hellfighters,” a decorated African-American unit.
His service to the United State Coast Guard Auxiliary and the American public is in keeping with the highest traditions of patriotism and volunteerism. For his service, Mr. Knox was awarded the Coast Guard Unit Commendation (3), the Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation, the Examiner Program Ribbon (with bronze star), the Operations Program Ribbon (with bronze star), and the Membership Service Award (2). Mr. Knox was also an active member of Squadron 379, NYC Group of the Civil Air Patrol. AUX Fred Knox is survived by his wife, sisters, and step-children.
