Welcome to the Member Training Department 

The role and activities of the Member Training Department have changed noticeably with the advances of on-line training and the new paradigms of learning that evolved as a result of COVID. In-person face-to-face learning is not as prominent as it had been in the past.  Additionally, zoom training-sessions and assisted self-learning in the form of narrated power-points and on-line videos have further increased the number of alternatives to traditional member training. This does not mean traditional face-to-face is gone. Traditional classroom training has the advantage of increased fellowship and is more efficient for dealing with some types of hands-on techniques and qualifications and will still be available to deliver the same material that is found on-line. Divisions and Flotillas are encouraged to include brief member training topics before or after their normal meetings.  

Member Training includes all training provided in and by the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary for Auxiliary Members. It spans the following directorates: 

Member Training covers AUXOP Training, Certification Courses, Public Education Courses, Mandatory Workshops and Mandated Training.  Such sources will include Manuals, PowerPoints, Personal Qualification Guides (PQS), Exams or password protected online websites. The majority of resource materials for these programs are found on-line within the various directorates. 

 

Member Training Department Staff

We are a team of committed volunteers with a variety of skill sets dedicated to training the members of First Southern.  The Department assists in the development and preparation of material for the Staff Officer’s College (SOC), D-Train, and the Leadership Development Academy and assists in the Regional Based Training Programs (RBTs) within the District.  If you have topics or programs that you would like to see developed, please forward your requests the ADSO-MTs via the Chain-of-Communication to so we may consider them.
