C-School Courses

Auxiliary C-Schools are formal training classes funded by the Coast Guard and taught by Coast Guard

or Auxiliary members. They are topic-specific and are usually just a few days in length. Different

courses are held all over the county, and getting approved for one of these courses is quite an honor.

C-School Facts:

1. Funding for C-Schools is variable. Sometimes there are reimbursable travel orders available, and sometimes not. Each class is different, and it also depends on how far you are traveling.

2. You may not hear if you have been approved for a C-School course until just a week or two before the course starts. You must accept the C-School once accepted, so make sure you can really attend (get time off work, can afford the travel, etc.).

3. If you are a “no show” to a C-School, you may not be allowed to attend another one for up to 3 years, so be sure you can really attend before you apply.

Applying for C-School:

1. Once you find a C-School that you are interested in attending, complete the STTR Training Request Form (form 7059). See page 2 for the directions on how to fill it out properly. Make sure all required sections are completed.

2. Have your Flotilla Command sign your completed STTR

3. Forward your signed and completed STTR to DIRAUX

Boat Crew

1. Prerequisites:

Successful Completion of a NSBLA approved boating course

BQ qualified

Completion of an initial (4hr) TCT course

2. Training

For boat crew training, you will be assigned a mentor who will guide you in your studies and validate your knowledge and skills as you progress. Your mentor will let you know when he/she thinks you are ready for your Boat Crew qualification exam. The Boat Crew exam includes a dockside oral exam as well as on-the-water knowledge and skills review with a QE.

NOTE: ALL knowledge and skills reviews must be validated by your mentor before you can sit for your Boat Crew qualification exam.

3. Materials

The first subject for the Boat Crew program and qualification tasks is the Boat Crew Seamanship Manual.

Coxswain

Boat Crew qualified (current)

28 hours underway as Boat Crew

Completion of Operations Policy Test

Completion of initial closed book NAV RULES

Completion of ICS 100, 700, 800 & 210

FEMA Emergency Management Courses

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers many FEMA course free of charge.

All Auxiliarists are required to complete ICS 100, 700 & 210. In addition, many members in operational or leadership positions are also required to complete ICS 200 & 800.

Once you complete an online course, you will receive an email that includes a link to your electronic certificate. Provide a copy of this certificate to your FSO-IS to ensure it gets added to AUXDATA.
