We are looking to expand our services in the Madison area and are interested in talking to people with various skills of any kind.  The opportunities in the Auxiliary are many and varied, and some directly support Coast Guard missions (see the hottest skills below).  

Believe it or not, some members have no interest in being on the water!  It is very likely you will find a slot that fits your interests.  Some members use their professional skills as Auxiliarists while others look for new opportunities to broaden their horizons.

Hottest skills
currently being sought after by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and can directly support Coast Guard stations/missions:
  1. Health professionals of all kinds, especially Psychologists
  2. Real estate professionals
  3. Ordained clergy (there is even a dedicated national flotilla for clergy now, and it doesn't preclude serving in your local flotilla)
  4. Culinary Assistants (serve in Coast Guard galleys, including on cutters)
  5. Attorneys / Paralegals
  6. Engineers / Contractors
  7. Cybersecurity
  8. Energy Managers 
  9. Financial professionals
  10. Interpreters (overseas deployment possible)

Our Flotilla is seeking members with these  interests:

  • Members who would like to offer their boats as Auxiliary facilities to patrol the Madison area lakes both routinely and for special events, Lake Michigan on occasion, and also Lake Winnebago during EAA
    • Boat Crew Members and Coxswains
  • Radio communications
  • Paddlesports enthusiasts
  • Boat Safety Examiners
  • Program Visitors
  • Public Affairs and advertising
  • Publications (newsletter)
  • Computer work, including website, social media, and databases
  • Administration and Management
  • Human Resources
  • Recruiting experience
  • Finance
  • Instructors and aides for Public Education classes as well as for Member Training
  • Academy Partners (recruiter for the Coast Guard)
  • ...and many more  (dozens of qualifications are open to Auxiliarists willing to put in the time and training)

PLEASE NOTE:  When joining the Coast Guard family, no matter what skills you already have or what skills you want to attain, your training with us will be to Coast Guard-level proficiency.  This is important for consistency, professionalism, and integrity in all Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary missions and roles.  While this may sound daunting, it isn't really because we have your back to help you along.
