Mission Bay flotilla members supported the recreational boating safety mission of the USCG Auxiliary at the San Diego International Boat Show from June 19th to the 21st this year.

Division One’s presence at the event was organized and managed by George Glover, VCDR. George did an excellent job in ensuring our booth was stocked with literature, well-staffed by representatives from the Division’s flotillas, and a professional image was maintained every day of the event. The new Auxiliary-branded sun shade and table cover that George ordered prior to the show really upped our game when it came to making our booth look noticeable and professional.

On Saturday, Sector San Diego put on a 25-minute Search and Rescue helicopter demonstration that impressed the boat show crowd and brought a lot of positive comments from people visiting our booth.

Public affairs activities like the San Diego Boat Show are important for helping us get the boating safety message out to the boating public. We had over a dozen boaters request Vessel Safety Checks and several people asked for more information about volunteering with the USCG Auxiliary. We handed out a lot of literature and answered many questions about boating safety and about the US Coast Guard in general.
