USCGC EAGLE visited San Diego for two weekends during August 2025. Division 01 had the honor of helping out with ship open days on August 15 through August 18 and Flotilla 01-05 Mission Bay was well represented in staffing those efforts.

The USCGC EAGLE is a 295-foot, three-masted barque used as a training vessel for future officers of the United States Coast Guard. Known as “America’s Tall Ship,” the majestic EAGLE is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes and the only active square-rigger in U.S. government service. Built in Germany in 1936, at the close of the war the ship was taken as a war reparation by the U.S., re-commissioned as the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter EAGLE and sailed to New London, Connecticut, which has been her permanent homeport ever since.

During the weekend, our flotilla helped with ship public tours and had meaningful interactions with many former coast guard members who had sailed on her. It was an amazing experience to be able to listen to the anecdotes and experiences of those who had links to the ship dating back to the 1950s.
Public affairs events such as these are an important mission for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Through outreach events like these, we are able to promote awareness of the USCG, USCGA, and inspire future leaders to join us.
