WHAT CAN I DO?
After 9-11, many of us asked, how can
we help? Now, more than ever, the
Coast Guard and the volunteers of the
Coast Guard Auxiliary, need
your assistance.
The following will be of great aid:
1. Be aware of your surroundings and
report any suspicious or unusual
activities to the Coast Guard on VHF
Channel 16 or 9, or by calling the NYPD
Harbor Unit at (718) 993-0950.
(If there is an actual emergency you
can also call 911).
2. Have everyone on your boat wear a
life jacket (PFD) to show their support
for the Team Coast Guard men and
women on patrol.
3. File a Float Plan to let your loved
ones know when to expect your return
and what to do in case of emergency.
Visit the FloatPlanCentral website, a
service of the U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary, to download and fill out a
Float Plan.
4. Consider joining the Coast Guard
Auxiliary and put yourself, and your
boat, to work in support of the Coast
Guard!
HOW DO I JOIN?
Any US Citizen, over the age of 17
who has never had a felony conviction
is eligible to join the Coast Guard
Auxiliary. Although facility ownership
(i.e. boat, airplane, or radio
transmitter) is welcomed, it is not
required.
If you are looking for a new adventure,
while at the same time, can commit the
time, and wish to assist your country
in this time of need, email us and we
will contact you to discuss your
current skills and future involvement
plan.
