Attila Karacsony, known to his family and friends as “Art” passed away on June 4, 2023 at age 68 after a long battle with cancer.

Art was a member of Flotilla 04, Division 04, First District Southern. He was a true gentleman and an outstanding Auxiliarist. Art’s involvement and positive attitude was an inspiration to us all and he will be missed.

Our Lord has called our shipmate to sail with Him in eternally calm waters forever free from the storms and tempests of mortal life. 

We honor and cherish the memory of our shipmate, but we do not mourn for him for he has found refuge in the great harbor of eternal peace. Rather, it is for ourselves that we mourn; for a good friend has slipped his moorings in the night and is no longer among us. We will miss his hand on the helm. We will miss his shoulder next to ours. We will miss his encouragement and counsel as we meet the storm and strife of life. 

We of the Coast Guard Auxiliary mourn our loss, but we are consoled by the abiding faith that when the final watch changes for us, and we too cross the bar, our shipmate will be waiting to lead us into safe anchorage. 

Peter Paul Kosty, age 95, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2022.

Peter was born and raised in Rahway, NJ, to Charles and Anna RemetaKoszty. He was a Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He married Grace Depew in 1950 and they celebrated 72 years of marriage together. Peter built their house in Iselin, NJ and they moved there in 1960. He was a master plumber and had his own plumbing and heating company. Peter was an active volunteer in the local community and at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister.

Peter loved to hunt and fish and was a member of Bell’s Rod and Gun Club for many years with his buddies. He also loved boating and was very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 30 years, teaching safe boating and patrolling the waters from Sandy Hook to Staten Island.

He loved his visits to Italy and spending time in Cancun every year with friends and family.

December 11, 1937 - November 07, 2019

Harry was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 11, 1937.

Harry was a Plant Manager for AT&T in Basking Ridge. NJ.

He was a US Army Veteran and a 37 year member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary; he was also a long time member of the US Power Squadrons.

Leonidas William “Leon” Zois

 April 19, 1920 - November 11, 2019

Leon Zois, member of Flotilla 4-2, crossed over the bar on Nov. 11, 2019.

An Auxiliiarist for over 35 years, Leon was loved and respected by all who knew him. Always generous with his words and deeds, his devotion to his family and his country are unparalleled.

Leon received the Legion of Honor Medal presented by France for his solidarity he showed towards the county of France and its people as a Private First Class, Company C, 291st Infantry, participating in the Liberation of Normandy, the Liberation of Northern France, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhineland.

It is with profound gratitude that we praise Leon for his love of family, friends and country.  He truly embodied the Coast Guard core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.
