Return to Flotilla 15-10's Home Page.
While we often think of warm, beautiful days for swimming, boating, and fishing, here in the "North Country" our waterways see their fair share of winter activities as well! Ice fishing, snowmobiling, skating, hiking, and other recreational activities take place on out waterways for much of the winter. These activities present special safety challenges.
Members of the Bridge Flotilla engage in weekly observations of ice conditions from Whitehall, NY, all the way to Essex, NY, in both Vermont and New York, and regularly engage with outdoorsmen at these sites. These conditions are then reported to USCG Station Burlington. By constantly monitoring changing ice conditions, the USCG is alerted to potential safety problems, and can be proactive in preventing tragedy.
