 STEP 1: Confirm Your Access
Click to open/close

Before you start anything, you'll need to ensure you have all your access accounts established and ready to go, as you'll need them to access the training courses and log your training hours.

To setup and/or confirm your access please refer to our AUX Credentials Page.

STEP 2: Recording Your Time in AuxData II (AD2)
Click to open/close

Any time you provide the Auxiliary needs to be recorded in our database of record, AuxData II(AD2), this includes any time spent on training.

Anytime spent in a self-taught/on-line class, studying, class prep, and/or travel to/from a an in-person class should be recorded in AD2 via an Activity Log using the Mission Code of 99D.  The exception is if you attend a proctored or instructed class(on-line or in person), you do not need to log your class time, as should it will be recorded for you by the instructor unless otherwise directed.  All other time however(prep, study, travel) you should record.

You may record time as you complete each class/course as individual activity logs, or keep track of it as you go for the month and record it as one lump sum into one activity log.  The single activity log approach is recommended as it will not only save you time, but the FSO-IS in approving it.  For summarized monthly logs, always use the first day of the month as the start date rather than the last so your reported time does not flow over into the following month.

So how do you record your time in AD2?  After confirming your access into AD2 per Step 1 above, go to our AUXDATA II Activity Logs page.  There you will find full instructions on how to submit an Activity Log, not only for your training time, but for any other time you may incur.

If at anytime you require assistance, please contact our FSO-IS

 STEP 3: The Auxiliary Classroom
Click to open/close

Most of the Auxiliary's on-line training in now completed via the Auxiliary Classroom, including the CG Auxiliary Core Training (AUXCT) and Basic Qualification(BQII) courses.

Enrollment Keys
The new Auxiliary Classroom now requires Enrollment Keys in order to register for every class. To obtain the enrollment keys for both AUXCT(AUX Core Training Certification Portal) & BQII(AUX Basic Qualification Course II-2021), please go to the Directorate Enrollment Keys Page.

Please be sure to log into the Aux Classroom before starting your training to confirm your access.  If you are presented with a profile update page upon your first time logging in, please update your profile as needed and save it.  If at this point you do not have access to the Home page, please contact your FSO-IS

 STEP 4: Required Core Training
Click to open/close

Before You Start

All course completions either via tests or self-attestations completed in either the Auxiliary Classroom or the National Testing Center(NTC) should automatically update into AuxData II(AD2).

However we recommend that each test result, course certificate, or completed attention form be snap-shotted/downloaded and kept locally on your computer in case any AD2 upload fails and you need to verify your course records.

1 - AUXCT - Auxiliary Core Training

Auxiliary Core Training (AUXCT) prepares United States Coast Guard Auxiliarists to effectively serve as members of a volunteer organization that is in frequent contact with the American public and which augments and supports the US Coast Guard. This training provides a basic understanding of critical human relations policies, personal safety and organizational security topics.

Course Access: These courses are found in the Auxiliary Classroom and go to the AUX Core Training Certification Portal   Enrollment keys can be found at the Directorate Enrollment Keys Page under each od the course's name: Workforce Resilience, Security Fundamentals, etc.

AUXCT is comprised of 6 courses, 5 of which are required to be re-certified every 5 years

Course Code             Course Name  Frequency

  • Note that the 5 year period is on a calendar basis.  So for example, if you completed classes any time in 2018, they expire on Dec 31 2023.

Course Recognition:  All courses for AUXCT will be automatically be updated into AUXDATA2 within 14 days.  However it is suggested that you keep a copy of all your completed course for reference in case the upload fails.

2 - Basic Qualification (BQ) II

This is the new Basic Qualification course recommended for all Auxiliarists. Based on the Auxiliary Manual (AUXMAN), Auxiliary Members who are familiar with the customs, traditions and history of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, understand our Missions and Programs, the organizational structure, the policies and regulations that guide us, and understand the protocols and proper uniform wear will be far better prepared to serve the Coast Guard than less knowledgeable Members.

The goals of the seven Module units are to provide you with a basic level of knowledge upon which you can build your volunteer “career” in the Auxiliary and effectively work with active duty members of the Coast Guard. Upon completion of all seven modules, you will have a strong basis of knowledge about the key aspects of working with the Coast Guard as an Auxiliarist.

Course Access: These courses are found in the Auxiliary Classroom and go to AUX Basic Qualification Course II-2021.  Enrollment key can be found at the Directorate Enrollment Keys Page under "AUX Basic Qualification Course II-2021"

Course Recognition:  While each individual course for BQII will be automatically updated into AUXDATA2 within 14 days, your Member Status changing to "BQ" is only completed manually by DIRAUX and needs to be triggered by your FSO-IS.  Please download your final "BQII Completion Cetificate" and send it to your FSO-IS officer for submission.  As with the AUXCT certificates, it is suggested that you keep a copy of all your completed course for reference in case the upload fails.

For more information on this course, including access to the enrollment keys, please visit the Basic Qualification Course II training page.

3 - Introduction to Risk Management(ITRM)

As both ICS courses are within the AUXCT Portal, additional enrollment keys are not needed.  However you will need a new key for 100293, so as before please refer to the Directorate Enrollment Keys Page for the appropriate key.

AUXCT & Risk Management(TCT) Re-Certification

Every member at some point will have to re-certify their AUXCT, and depending on your specific competencies you will have to renew your Risk Management(TCT) training as well.

AUXCT Recertification

Click to open/close

Every five years you are required to re-certify the majority of your AUXCT courses as mentioned above. Recertification is completed the same way you completed the initial training, by taking the classes and completing the self-attestation forms.

To complete your recertification, please follow the process as listed in the above section Step 4: Required Training > AUXCT section.

If you're not sure of your certification status, you can run the AUXCT Tracker out of AD2 (AD2 access required to run report)...

  • The re-certification only applies to those classes that fall under the "Renew Every 5 Years" section of the report.
  • If status is green, it means that class is current and the number represents how many days are remaining before it expires.
  • If your status is yellow, it means that class is about to expire in "X" days.
  • If your status is red, it means that class has expired by "X" days and all of your competencies will soon move to REYR status if they haven't already.
  • If you don't see your name, then you've never been AUXCT certified.

TCT Annual Course Renewal

Click to open/close

Annual renewal of your Risk Management/Team Coordination Training(TCT) is required for those competencies considered to be Operational in nature such as an UPV Examiner, Boat Crew, Coxswain, PWC Operator, Comms Operator, and others. (A complete list of these competencies can be found in BSX Policy Letter 19-01, page 5, Section 2.)

This renewal course is to be taken to to maintain your annual currency. (Completed every 15 months afterwards, annually + 3 month grace period. TCT requirements can be found on Page 2, section 7.b.1 of the BSX Policy Letter 19-01).

If you are unsure of your current status, you can run the TCT Expiration Status Report from AD2. The Expiration Date shown in the report includes the 3 month grace period, so classes should be taken well before then.

This course is a proctored class either taken virtually or in person.  While classes are scheduled regularly and must be registered for, it is recommended that you do not wait until you enter your grace period as if you do a class may not be available intimate and you will go REYR(Yearly Requirements Not Met).

You can find the TCT class schedule on the D11S Calendar.  As this is a proctored class, the instructor will ensure your completion is recorded in AuxData2, so there is no need for you to send anything to the FSO-IS upon completion.
