What is the Coast Guard Auxiliary?
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is is the volunteer civilian, non-military component of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliarists serve side-by-side with members of the Coast Guard and wear similar uniforms. We are a diverse group of about 35,000 people. Our love of the water, knowledge of boating and willingness to serve fellow boaters binds us together to promote safe boating.
Where and when does my Flotilla meet? Can I attend a meeting?
Our Flotilla general meetings are held once a month 6:00 pm on the 4th Monday at

Meetings are open to the public and you are encouraged to attend. Contact us for more information or to answer any questions about the Auxiliary.
How and why should I join the Auxiliary?
Applicants must be at least 17 years old (no upper age limit) and a U.S. citizen. You must have no felony convictions. No prior military service or experience is necessary, only a desire to contribute to the mission of the Auxiliary and the Coast Guard. There is no one definitive answer why you should join, but you will get valuable training and education on boating safety that you can pass on to the community. You'll make life-long friendships and experience things that many will never get the opportunity to participate.
Do I need a boat to join the Auxiliary?
You do not need a boat or any boating experience to join us. If you have a desire to provide a public service we provide training in many aspects of boating and marine operations.
Can I use my boat in Auxiliary operations?
Yes, you can offer your boat to become an "Operational Facility". You can use it to perform Surface Patrols, Search and Rescue operations, Regatta Patrols, and many other missions. If you do offer your vessel, you are always in command. You choose who crews, what missions to participate and when to participate. The Auxiliary requires that a qualified Coxswain and Crew are aboard, but you remain in charge.
The ideal boat is 25' or greater moored or launched from either San Diego Harbor or Mission Bay.
