2025 Vessel ExaminersPhoto Caption: Charles Festa (Left) and Devin Peters (Right) Holding Vessel Examiner Qualifications in Mission Bay

Mission Bay Flotilla members Charles Festa and Devin Peters received their Vessel Examiner certificates, ribbons, and medals at the VSC Day held at the Hyatt Hotel and Marina on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Their achievement in qualifying as USCG Auxiliary Vessel Examiners means Flotilla 1-05 now has a roster of 10 vessel examiners for 2025. Charles and Devin have already proved themselves capable and knowledgeable, having undertaken at least 15 vessel safety checks combined since qualifying.

Vessel examiners conduct free vessel safety checks and offer boating safety advice to boaters throughout the local area and beyond. Vessels that pass the safety check are awarded a safety decal, which is displayed in a prominent location on the boat, paddle craft, or personal watercraft.

To qualify as a USCG Auxiliary Vessel Examiner, members must pass a qualifying exam and conduct five supervised vessel safety checks. Qualified examiners are awarded with a certificate, ribbon and medal.
