🛟 COAST GUARD AUXILIARY SAFETY TIPS 🛟

Be Smart. Be Safe. Be Seen.

✅ Before You Launch:

  • Check the Weather ☁️
Avoid storms & high winds—when in doubt, don’t go out.
  • File a Float Plan 🗺️
Tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back.
Float Plan Central – Official site of the Float Plan
  • Inspect Your Gear 🔦
Life jackets, whistle, fire extinguisher, lights, drain plug.

🧍‍♂️ On the Water:

  • Wear your life jacket at all times—especially kids under 13.
  • Stay sober – alcohol & water don’t mix.
  • Use navigation lights between sunset and sunrise.
  • Maintain a sharp lookout – watch for swimmers, paddlers, and other boats.

🚨 Emergencies:

  • Call VHF Channel 16 for U.S. Coast Guard assistance.
  • Use a whistle or mirror to signal for help.
  • Stay with the boat if you capsize—it’s easier to find.
