What is the AUXCA Basic Course?
The AUXCA Basic Course is a 22-hour Basic Training course to teach the proper sanitation, process, and protocols to perform various USCG Galley missions. The course consists of three parts:
- Classroom
- Hands-on tasks in USCG Galley
- Written exam
After the AUXCA Basic Course, a member must complete the AUXCA PQS within 1 year at an USCG Galley to attain an AUXCA qualification
A nominal fee of $25 per student may be required to participate int he course to cover individual food expenses at the galley.
What the AUXCA Basic Course is NOT?
- The course is NOT a cooking school!
- The AUXCA program is NOT a soup kitchen!
- AUXCA is NOT just another “qualification” to add to your Auxiliary resume!
- AUXCA is NOT about impressing Coasties with your Auxiliary “rank”!
- The AUXCA program is NOT about you the Auxiliarist -> it IS about the USCG!
How is the AUXCA Online Basic Course different from the resident AUXCA Basic Course?
The online course does NOT handle the practical portion of the AUXCA training. To attain the AUXCA qualification, hands-on training at an official USCG galley is required. The AUXCA Online Basic Course only covers the classroom portion of the qualification.
Once the AUXCA Online Basic Course is completed, active training needs to be completed within 1 year of the start of the AUXCA Online Basic Course. Contact the SO-CA to schedule time at an official USCG galley to progress through your AUXCA PQS.
