For those Auxiliary activities where written orders are not issued by the Coast Guard, it is the responsibility of the Auxiliary leadership to ensure that each qualified member is properly assigned to duty and that such assignment is property documented. Properly documenting that a member has been assigned to duty helps to protect the member in the case of any incident, injury, or loss while participating in Auxiliary activities.
In the case of meetings, Public Education courses, and Public Affairs/Community Relations events, this will usually come in the form of email(s) soliciting and confirming participation.
For self-directed/self-scheduled activities (Vessel Safety, RBS Program Visits, etc.), members should send an email to [email protected] (with a copy to the FC, VFC, or FSO) documenting such activity before they begin. The subject line should state "Assignment to Duty," and the email should include the date, approximate beginning and end time (including travel), and location(s) of the intended activity, a description of the activity, and the member's name and Auxiliary member number.
