  1. This ALAUX announces the cancellation of references (A through C), and the promulgation of reference (D).
  2. Reference (D) was signed by the Chief Director of Auxiliary, on 01 November 2022. Major changes include:
    • Converted from Manual to Handbook.
    • Streamlined Qualification Manuals for Boat Crewmember, Coxswain and Personal Watercraft Operator (PWO) into a single document.
    • Streamlined qualification task types and formatting to better align with counterpart Boat Forces Coxswain and Boat Crewmember Personal Qualification Standards.
    • Added Deferred task requirements and definition.
    • Removed all references to the legacy POMS and replaced with AUXDATA II.
    • Added Physical Fitness and Vision screening task requirements.
    • Added the Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) task for Crewmember.
    • Changed the standard time for Man Over-Board (MOB) recovery to 3 minutes to improve the chances of survivability of a Person in Water (PIW).
    • Combined all search pattern plotting tasks into a single task.
    • Added proficiency in the Use of GPS/DGPS (if equipped) and Use of Radar (if equipped) to the Coxswain Underway Check Ride form and Coxswain Currency Maintenance Check Ride form.
    • Added proficiency in the use of GPS/DGPS (if equipped) to the Personal Watercraft (PWC) operator Underway Check Ride form and the Currency Maintenance Check Ride form.
    • Added Reading Assignments and Questions.
  3. No paper distribution will be made of this Handbook. This Handbook is available on SharePoint at: CG-BSX-1 - BSX-1 Directives - All Documents (sharepoint-mil.us) and the Internet at: Surface Program Manuals and Document Info (uscgaux.info).
  4. Auxiliary members that have started the qualification process prior to release of this ALAUX, as either a crewmember, coxswain, or PWC operator under references (A through C), will have until 31 December 2023 to certify. Members failing to meet certification by 31 December 2023, must start using reference (D) for the qualification process. Members are authorized to transfer applicable “TASK” from references (A through C) to reference (D) and continue the qualification process using reference (D).
  5. Internet release is authorized.
