Flotilla 74 was officially raised in 1991, beginning a tradition of service, dedication, and support to the U.S. Coast Guard and the local boating community. Established during a time of growth within the Auxiliary, the flotilla quickly became an important part of the district’s operations.

From its earliest days, Flotilla 74 placed strong emphasis on boating safety education, ensuring that the public was well-trained and informed about safe practices on the water. Through public education classes, vessel safety checks, and community outreach programs, the flotilla developed a reputation for professionalism and commitment to the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s mission.

Over the decades, members of Flotilla 74 have taken part in numerous operational support missions, including safety patrols, search and rescue assistance, and training exercises alongside active-duty Coast Guard units. Their efforts have directly contributed to safer waterways and enhanced readiness within the community.

A proud moment in flotilla history came in 2005, when members were awarded the Coast Guard Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon with Hurricane Device for their service and support during Hurricane Katrina. This honor recognized the extraordinary dedication, sacrifice, and contributions of Auxiliary members in one of the nation’s most challenging maritime disaster relief operations.

There were countless moments where the unit and their members were decorated. Between 2020 to 2022, The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Outstanding Unit Award was presented to recognize units that displayed extraordinary dedication and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite unprecedented challenges, Our members demonstrated exceptional teamwork, innovation, and commitment to mission success, ensuring the safety and security of the nation while supporting pandemic response efforts. Flotilla 74 was impacted heavily during this time as we lost many of our members.

Leadership within Flotilla 74 has always emphasized teamwork and mentoring, ensuring that new members are welcomed, trained, and encouraged to take on responsibilities. Many past leaders of the flotilla have gone on to serve in higher district and division-level offices, further strengthening the Auxiliary’s mission.

Flotilla 74 also prides itself on its community engagement. Whether through participation in local events, collaboration with marine organizations, or direct outreach to boaters, the flotilla has consistently represented the values of service, safety, and camaraderie.

Now, more than three decades since its founding, Flotilla 74 continues to thrive. Its members remain dedicated to carrying out the core missions of the Coast Guard Auxiliary: promoting recreational boating safety, supporting Coast Guard operations, and fostering fellowship among volunteers.

As Flotilla 74 looks ahead, it honors the achievements of its past while embracing new opportunities to serve. What began in 1991 as a newly raised flotilla has grown into a proud unit with a strong legacy of service and commitment to both the Coast Guard and the boating public.
