Request a Vessel Safety Check

Vessel Safety Check Sticker, no year

Request a Vessel Safety Check

As one of our boating safety missions, we conduct complimentary Vessel Safety Checks of recreational watercraft (boats, personal watercraft, etc.). These checks provide confidential information to the boat owner.  The check provides information between the boat owner and the inspector. Stickers are awarded if the vessel passes the safety check.

What Type of Items Are Checked?

  • Life Jackets
  • Registration and numbering
  • Navigation lights
  • Ventilation
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Distress signals (flares, horn, etc.)Battery cover and connections

All of these items are currently required by state and federal laws and, if missing or non-operating, can result in a citation if your vessel is inspected by the Coast Guard.

Are you ready to get started on your path to safer boating? Click the link below, then fill out the short request form and click the submit button. We will locate the closest volunteer vessel examiners within 30 miles of your location and request that they contact you and set up a Vessel Safety Check for your boat.

  • All of these items, and more, are currently required by state and federal laws and, if missing or non-operating, can result in a citation if your vessel is inspected by local, regional or national law enforcement personnel.
  • We do not issue citations, nor do we report the results of the safety check to any enforcement agency, but we will advise you of the recommended safety features for your size boat and will award a decal to display on your boat if it has passed the safety check.
  • The Vessel Safety Check gives you a risk-free way to meet the legal minimums and to potentially avoid a costly citation.
