NACO Diversity Statement
It is the policy of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to ensure that all citizens, regardless of race, gender, color, national origin, sexual orientation, age, religion, or physical or mental disability have an equal opportunity to become a member of this organization. People from a wide variety of backgrounds and interests are welcome and encouraged to join the Auxiliary to work side by side with us as we serve the boating public.
The fundamental action imperative of diversity is to create an environment, which fosters an appreciation of the values, skills, and abilities of each individual member. Members are responsible to each other for promoting an inclusive atmosphere of acceptance and respect, for demonstrating a commitment to fair and equal opportunity, and for moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating our different backgrounds. We are committed to enjoying a diverse and inclusive membership. We all understand that diversity is not a problem to be solved, but that it is an asset to be developed.

The Auxiliary’s vision is to make diversity an organizational imperative and bring us a treasure trove of different perspectives. Our vision is more than an alignment of organizational goals but an indispensable dynamic process to increase performance and productivity as we strive to become the “Volunteer Organization of Choice”.
Through this shared vision, we’ll recognize diversity and remove all barriers, real or perceived, so current and potential members will feel an increased pride and honor in their membership.
- Our members are honored to offer themselves as volunteers to assist the USCG, with the desire for training and meaningful involvement, so that we can enhance safety in the boating community.
- We’ll respect the volunteer nature of our organization and provide current and prospective members with a positive environment to reach their full potential.

- Diversity competencies are reflected in reviews, rewards, discipline, and special assignments.
- Diversity initiatives are allotted adequate resources.
- The organization has a strong diversity champion in its leadership, and mentoring is available.
- Everyone in the organization receives training in diversity principles and understands his or her role as a diversity champion.
Stones’ River Flotilla Commanders’ Diversity Statement
As Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 0821105 my responsibility is to ensure that ALL members of our team will have an equal opportunity to serve as a volunteer in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Our working environment will be all-inclusive. I recognize Diversity is more than just race, gender, national origin, age, religion or social-economic status. Diversity of thoughts, ideas, competencies, abilities, talents make the Auxiliary what it is today and I will support and encourage each member to use the above points to better our working environment.
I will follow the Coast Guards’ Core Values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty, while recognizing that “Diversity is not a problem to be solved, but an asset to develop.”
Honoring Diversity can only make us stronger, and more cohesive as a working unit and I will promote Diversity through leadership by example, mentoring our members, and offering quality training for our members.
I will use all the tools available to us to promote the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary Diversity Program.
