EDMONDS MEASURED MILE

Prior to modern navigation electronics the boater navigated with the assistance of terrestrial markers, beacons and buoys. Accurate navigation depended on knowing with some degree of accuracy the mile per rpm setting of the engine. To this end a measured mile was arranged on shore so that by timing between the marks an accurate mile per rpm setting could be established.

A measured mile was established north of the Edmonds ferry terminal sometime mid-20th century.

Flotilla 12 assumed maintenance of the mile in the mid-1970's and continued to provide maintenance as a mission into the 1990's. That mission was subsequently abandoned and the markers for the measured mile have since disappeared.

THE EDMONDS MARINA FLAG POLE

The Edmonds Marina Flag Pole- one of the earliest collaborative efforts with the Edmonds Yacht Club and the Port of Edmonds.

The flag pole was apparently taken down prior to or during the 1985 marina expansion.
