District Meeting

Our September District Meeting will be held at the Best Western Wesley Inn and Suites in Gig Harbor, Washington. Hotel Link They offer free breakfasts. Make your reservations now. Room rates are $117/night single occupancy or $142/night double occupancy. Ask for the special Coast Guard Auxiliary rate. There is a $5/night charge for parking. The hotel is dog friendly. Let them know when you make your reservations. Reservations require one week notice to cancel without penalty.

If you are flying into SeaTac, you will take the Bremerton-Kitsap Airporter.  Airporter

The BK Airporter runs to the Inn at Gig Harbor.  We will have someone available to pick you up at the Inn at Gig Harbor and bring you to the Wesley Inn.  Phone number to be provided later to those flying.

Two tips:

  1. Bring cash as the nearest ATM doesn’t always work and they don’t always accept credit cards, and 
  2. Buy a round trip ticket and save 10%. 

Training at the September District 13 Meeting will focus on unit Finances and Property Management.  This interactive four-hour session will include updated information and handouts to give finance officers, material officers and unit commanders a better understanding of their responsibilities.  More knowledge of the finance and material officer positions can help avoid frustration and future mistakes.  Training will be presented by DSO-FN Maggie Albert.

Public Affairs Specialist Deborah Heldt Cordone will offer a 2-hour class on Social Media at the District Conference in Gig Harbor. The class will cover the benefits of utilizing social media to tell the Coast Guard/Auxiliary story and for recruiting. It will also explain current Coast Guard guidelines involving personal and professional social media use. Ms. Cordone has been studying and utilizing different forms of social media since its inception. Her Master's Thesis in the year 2000 involved the sociogeographic study of the internet. She currently helps admin two active-duty social media sites, for USCG Sector North Bend and USCG Station Siuslaw River.
