Job Available For Members at Sector Columbia River

Auxiliary Support at Sector Columbia River

Auxiliary help has been requested from Sector Columbia River in several job functions. Check out the list below and if you are interested complete the "Sector Support Interest Form" below and send it up the Chain of Leadership and Management.

Why should I consider working at Sector positions?

The rewards are simply knowing that you are supporting your community and country.  We each bring a unique set of skills to what we do -- our contribution can be as simple as being another member on the team or perhaps we might see something others miss in an inspection.  Coast Guard Support is one of the four cornerstones of the Auxiliary.

What Positions are Available?

What are the job qualifications?

Each job has an associated PQS (Personal Qualification System).  Start by reviewing the PQS for any of the jobs you are interested in - can you complete all of the tasks associated with the PQS?  (Click on the link above to go to the PQS for each job).

Do I have to live close to Portland for Sector Columbia River jobs?

Station watchstanding positions may be open in Portland,, Cape Disappointment,Tillamook, Westport areas. The Uninspected Passenger Vessel (UPV) position is not yet available.

When can I work at the training and the jobs?

That varies for each position. Some are weekday only positions and others are anytime (watchstanding). Make sure your availability is up to date in Auxdata - look up your own name in AuxDirectory, you can see the days and hours you said you are available and update if necessary. You also should review your skills bank entry and update it if needed.  Contact your FSO-IS if you need assistance.

What kind of commitment am I making?

While it varies for each task you will be expected to work a reasonable number of hours or missions. Because the PQS process takes time (and effort from active duty or reserve members) we expect you to stay with the program for a period of time (3 years) realizing that life situations can change.

Uniforms?

Because you are representing the Auxiliary and the Coast Guard, often among the general public, uniforms must meet a high standard.  Most positions require Operational Dress Uniforms (ODU). Some positions may not require a uniform but are performed in suitable civilian attire.

I'm interested - where do I go from here?

Step 1 - Review the PQS for positions you may be interested in

Step 2 - Review your AuxDirectory entry for time available and your skills bank entries (log onto your own name in AuxDirectory and follow the instructions).

Step 3 - Download the Sector Support Interest Form and fill it out (its a fillable Adobe file)

Step 4 - Email the completed Sector Support Interest Form to your Flotilla Commander along with any questions you may have. Your FC will endorse the form and send it up the chain.  You should hear from the ASC, or the AUC, who will set up an interview with the active duty in the job area and get you going.

Technical Issues?

If your version of Adobe Reader won't save files you should upgrade to the latest version (which will allow you to fill out a form and save it with the data).  Click here to go to the Adobe web site to download a new Reader.
