UPCOMING COURSES

In 2018, California will start requiring boating safety courses in order to obtain a California Boater Card, starting with youth 20 and under in 2018, 25 and younger in 2019, etc.  Once approved, we expect to offer our most basic 8 hour “About Boating Safety” course on a regular basis in order to help the public fulfill this requirement.

In the meantime, watch for our Boating Skills and Seamanship course to be repeated this fall (2017). You can see the description below.

Contact our Public Education Officer Dennis L. Dyer via email for more information.

RECENTLY TAUGHT COURSES

Weekend Navigator SPRING 2017 (currently underway).  This course is an introduction to navigation skills, as generally used by diligent weekenders. The course recognizes that most modern boat operators use GPS and helps you understand how best to use this and other modern technology, while also building the skill set to fall back on if it fails. Our flotilla has taken a unique approach to this course by expanding the classroom time to 12  sessions. The extra time is dedicated to in-class practice as each skill is introduced.

Boating Skills and Seamanship FALL 2016  This is a comprehensive course designed to both introduce concepts to the novice and challenge the experienced boater to expand their knowledge base. The course starts with understanding your boat itself and covers boat handling, safety, and understanding the rules of the waterways.
