Guide to Becoming a USCG Auxiliary Member

GUIDE TO BECOMING A USCG AUXILIARY MEMBER

All prospective members of 113-08-11 must meet eligibility requirements, submit an Enrollment Application, and pass a background check in order to join.

The eligibility requirements are:
      ·Be a United States Citizen and submit proof of citizenship
               o Proof of citizenship can include a Certificate of Naturalization or United States Passport
      ·Be 18 years of age, or 17 years of age with parent permission and signature
      ·Have a valid social security number
      ·Be fingerprinted and pass a background check  (a Personal Security Investigation, or “PSI”)
      ·Have no felony convictions or major misdemeanors
               o The applicant should note criminal convictions on the Enrollment Application
               o Failure to report convictions may lead to automatic disenrollment
      ·If you have served in the armed forces, submit proof of discharge under honorable conditions and
                  form

      ·Be willing to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and its missions

PROCEDURE TO BECOME A MEMBER:

1. Attend a flotilla meeting
           Attending a meeting is the easiest way of discovering what the Auxiliary is about.
           Flotilla 113-08-11 is happy to meet new prospective members, and our officers will help
           you in becoming familiar with the Auxiliary.  Our meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday
           of every month at 1800 hrs (6 pm) at Auxiliary Hall, located at 150 Marine way in 
           Crescent City, 
California.

2. Complete the Enrollment Application
               Fill free to print out the application and fill it out in pen if you prefer.  (click here for application) Be sure to                complete all sections of the application and sign all parts of the application as appropriate.  While completing                the application if there are any questions you do not understand then leave blank and the HR (Human                Resource) member will assist you through the process in person if you would like.  (If you are unable                to print out the application one will be presented to you when you meet with your designated HR member at                he time of your meeting.

3. Read through the New Member Material provided to you by the HR (Human Resources)
               o Meet with the HR (Human Resources) to submit and review your application.
               o Bring your original proof of citizenship.
               o Be fingerprinted
               o Submit your yearly membership dues of $53

4. Take the New Member 30 question, multiple choice open book New Member Test

5. Take FEMA courses 100 and 700
             FEMA courses 100 and 700 can be reached through a webpage you will be directed to from
             your HR (Human Resources) officer.


6. Complete the classroom mandatory Basic training class

7. Complete the mandatory training from the USCG
             You will be directed to the USCG Auxiliary training webpage for those training classes.

8. Take and pass Boating Safety Course
            Once your PSI (Personal Security Investigation) is completed, you will be placed into the (AP Approved             Pending) status. However, in AP status, you may participate in limited Auxiliary activities but to participate in all             Auxiliary activities, a BQ (Basic Qualification) status is needed. This would require you to complete a Safe             Boating Course. The Safe Boating Course book can be obtained through the HR (Human Resources) officer. 

Once you have completed the mandatory training you will receive your Auxiliary Membership number and card which will allow you access all of the USCG Auxiliary Members websites
