Boat Crew Training Program

Qualifications Required Boat Crew and / or Coxswain designations

Steps Necessary To Obtain Qualification

1.  Achieve Basically Qualified (BQ) status

2.   Be familiar with the contents of the Boat Crew Seamanship

  • Manual (COMDTINSTR M16114.5C)

3    Be familiar with contents of Auxiliary Operations Policy

  • Manual (COMDTINSTR M16798.3E)
  • -pass exam on the Manual – Coxswains only
5.  Be familiar with the contents of the Boat Crew Training Manual
  •  Manual (COMDTINSTR M16794.51A)
  • 4  Complete qualification checkoffs for crew member contained in Auxiliary Boat Crew Qualification Guide
  • Manual (COMDTINST    M16794.52A)
  • Coxswains (M 16794.53A)

5.  Complete 8 Hour Team Coordination Training (TCT)

6.  Complete Incident Command System courses
  • Crew:  ICS 100, 700a (FEMA Online)
  • Coxwain:  100, 700a,  200, 800 (FEMA Online) and ICS210 which is classroom based.

7.  Coxwains must pass Auxiliary Policy Exam and closed book Book NAV rules exam.

8.  Successfully complete Qualified Examiner sign off 1 hour oral/4 hour practical

Steps Necessary To Retain Qualification               

1.    Perform annual patrol duties for a total of 12 hours

2.    Attend Operations and TCT refresher workshop annually

3.    Complete 8 Hr Team Coordination Training (TCT) every five Years

4.   Pass NAV Rules Test every five years (Coxswains only)

5.   Perform a QE check ride every three years to demonstrate retention of all skills and knowledge
