Erie Detachment

THE BRIG NIAGARA UNDER SAIL – HOME PORT ERIE MARITIME MUSEUM

The Erie Detachment of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary was transferred to the Dunkirk NY Flotilla (092-03-04) in December 2019. The Dunkirk Flotilla will provide administrative support while the Erie Detachment increases in membership and operational skill.  When the detachment reaches full strength, it will become an independent flotilla.

The Erie Detachment holds meetings at 1900 hours on the second Wednesday of each month. From April to October, the meetings are held at the USCG Erie Station, 1 Coast Guard Road, on Presque Isle. From November to March, the meetings are held at the Erie County PA Emergency Management Center, 2880 Flower Road, Erie PA 16509.

Members come from all walks of life.  We encourage anyone with an interest in joining the Coast Guard Auxiliary to contact our Flotilla Staff Officer for Human Resources (FSO-HR) or the Detachment Leader.

These staff officers can provide information for joining and specific requirement of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The primary mission of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is to assist the Coast Guard in providing recreational boating safety support to the public.  The Auxiliary provides this support by providing boating safety classes, distributing boating safety information, providing free vessel safety checks, and conducting safety patrols on land, water, and in the air.  Other missions include augmenting Coast Guard missions which are not law enforcement in scope.  These missions include operational support, culinary support, public affairs representation, marine safety and search and rescue activities.  There is something of interest for every member!  Your seamanship skills will improve as you participate in the Auxiliary.
