NOTICE

The 8^th WRR used Zeffy, a nonprofit fundraising software, for members to register and pay for the 2024 Fall Dtrain. Recently, Zeffy sent a donation receipt to acknowledge “…your donation to the USCG Auxiliary 8 Western Rivers District,  a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.”  This donation receipt indicated the total amount that was paid through Zeffy, itemized the “fair market value” of individual items and stated that “only the portion of your donation that exceeds this fair market value may be deducted.”  Please note that the Auxiliary is NOT a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. 

Despite efforts to modify or remove the sending of this notice for the 2024 Dtrain or for the upcoming Spring 2024 expenses, Zeffy cannot modify this notice nor discontinue the sending of the notice.  As Zeffy will be used for registration in the upcoming Spring Dtrain, a similar notice should be expected.

The  Auxiliary Manual (AuxMan) provides information concerning deductions for certain unreimbursed expenses. Deductions are not allowed for a contribution of services or for expenses to the extent reimbursed by the Coast Guard or Auxiliary.  (COMDTINST M 16790.1G, Section 5.G.3, Page 5-33,34) 

Please review the above AuxMan provisions for your 2024 and subsequent tax returns.
