Ohio law requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1982, take a boating safety course.

Many Insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete a boating safety course.

About Boating Safely covers the fundamentals of boating. This course is appropriate for new boaters and those more experienced as well. It is NASBLA approved and satisfies the Ohio Boater Education Law which has reciprocity with neighboring states.  The course is designed for skippers and crew of all types of watercraft and covers: general information about boats and maintenance; information to make your boating experience safer and more comfortable; tips on courtesy; laws and regulations. It is taught by certified US Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors. Topics include navigation, federal and state equipment requirements, trailering and boat handling.
