Vessel Safety Exam Session

Bill will be hosting a Vessel Safety Exam session with the Bay Yacht Club (BYC) on 23 August, from 1000 until 1600. The classroom portion will be at the BYC start at clubhouse (550 S Shoreline) then go to dock to do exams.  After the short presentation, I and any other available 7-9 VEs will perform exams on BYC members’ boats. Any VEs from 7-9 are invited to attend and participate.

BAY WATCH SOUTH. PATROLLED ARANSAS, COPANO, NUECES, AND CORPUS CHRISTI BAYS, SHIP CHANNEL AND INNER HARBOR OF PORT OF CORPUS CHRISTI, GULF BEACHES TO IMMEDIATELY NORTH OFSPI STATE PARK AND CITY OF SOUTH PADRE ISLAND. BEACH LINE WAS OBSCURED BY CLOUDS FROM 26 37.0 UNTIL 26 32.8, AND FROM SPI STATE PARK UNTIL RIO GRANDE RIVER. WAS ABLE TO OBSERVE MANSFIELD CUT AND TREES OF LIFE ON NORTHBOUND RETURN. COULD NOT OBSERVE BROWNSVILLE SHIP CHANNEL OR PORT OF BROWNSVILLE DUE TO WEATHER BELOW VISUAL FLIGHT RULES. NO NEW DEBRIS OR MARITIME POLLUTION OBSERVED.

Rockport Yacht Club's Annual Nautical Flea Market

Members of Flotilla 79 manned a Public Affairs booth at the Rockport Yacht Club's Annual Nautical Flea Market.  Auxiliarists greeted the public,  scheduled Vessel Exams, spoke to people about boating safety classes, and also talked to prospective members.   From this event the Flotilla has about thirty contacts to follow up for VE's and classes.

Auxiliarists E.J. Menard, Sig Murphy, Bill Strawn, and Walter Laas manned the booth for the Saturday and Sunday event.

Cleaning Crew

On Saturday, April 26, members from USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 79 of Rockport, TX participated in a beach cleanup in Rockport, TX. They cleaned a portion of Little Bay in downtown Rockport, removing thirteen bags of mostly discarded plastic waste. Members participating were E.J. Menard, Johnathan Cooper, Mike Solis, Charles Dekle, and Walter Laas.

Responding to request from TOWN (Texas Outdoor Women's Network), Auxiliary members Anne Lockwood and Walter Laas taught classes this past Sunday, April 27, on nautical charts and knot tying The event, titled "Women in the Wild, is an annual gathering of women interested in outdoor activities. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas Outdoor Women's Network are sponsors of the event. Flotilla 79 has been requested to participate again next year.

Great PA Weekend

Thanks to all who participated in the Rock the Dock Boat Show and Portland Windfest. I know it is asking a lot to participate in two events in the same weekend, but we pulled together and made the events successful.

Once again, Coastie was a big draw for the children at Windfest, and the kayaks and knotboards were magnets for show attendees at both venues as well.

After going through the contact forms, I arrived at the following figures:
