Public Education Events

Boaters born after September 1, 1993 are required to have a boating license if operating a boat with a motor over 15 HP, a personal watercraft (jet ski) or sailing vessel over 14 feet in overall length.

While you can take the Texas Parks and Wildlife Boating Safety Class online, you can also take this class and other marine safety classes in a face to face setting.  Flotilla 6-2 has several Public Education instructors in Flotilla 6-2 who teach Boating Safety and other similar courses several times a year.  Occasionally we also offer other classes to the public.

RBS Events

Flotilla 6-2 regularly conducts Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) events in the Houston/Galveston area.  In addition to teaching Boating Safety classes, we regularly perform Vessel Safety Checks and Boater Education events.

In addition, we always have certified Vessel Examiners who perform Vessel Safety Checks (VSCs) at public boat ramps throughout the area.  VSCs are performed as a courtesy to you. The examiner will check your vessel to ensure that your boat is in full compliance with all State and Federal requirements. If you pass, you will be awarded a Vessel Safety Check Decal that lets all Law Enforcement entities know that your boat meets all State and Federal Requirements. If you do not pass, you will be given a written report which shows the areas where your boat does not meet State and Federal Requirements.
