GRANT WRITING

Grant Writing is a new staff position, one we hope will help our units expand their ability to promote boating safety and otherwise promote our missions. There is money out there to help us, but the challenge is to find it.

This is not fund-raising. Fund-raisers ask donors to contribute money for the good of the cause, while grant writers propose to use the money for a specific and defined purpose that an organization might be willing to support. Success in both enterprises depends on finding a match between the interests of the donor and the recipient, but the similarity ends there. Fund-raisers compete on the strength of their personalities and powers of persuasion, while grant writers compete on the strength of their proposals.

Our role is to help you in three major ways: develop proposals for boating-safety related projects, locate organizations that might be willing to support your proposals, and put those proposals in the most competitive format possible. There will be a seminar at the September conference, and we hope to see you there. In the meantime, if you are considering submitting a grant proposal, there is a new link on the National Web Page that may help:
