BOATING SAFETY FOR THE NEW YEAR

VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS

2024 is here which means a new year for Vessel Safety Checks! Vessel Safety Checks are free, and they are conducted by a certified USCG Auxiliary Vessel Examiner. If your vessel passes the exam, you will be awarded a 2024 decal. The decal is valid from the day awarded until December 31, 2024. Paddle crafts are also eligible for a Vessel Safety Check!

BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION

Whether you are an experienced boater, or new to the water sports community it is always good to take a boating safety class! There are in person and online options. Due to the rising popularity of paddlesports, there are also classes for paddlecraft safety! Even after the boating safety classes are over, it is good to stay up-to-date on boating safety information. NEW LIFE JACKET LABELS

A message from the National Safe Boating Council, Safe Boating Campaign about the new life jacket labels:

Did you know there is a new life jacket label? The label is being phased in, and you may see it printed on the inside of a new life jacket. The new label DOES NOT make obsolete life jackets with the old label. Always look for a life jacket that is U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Remember, the best life jacket is one you wear! Your life jacket should be appropriate for the water activity and in good condition. Life jackets with a tear, broken pieces, or buoyancy loss should be disposed.
