Carrying an Emergency Beacon with you when you are on the water can be a life-saver! An Emergency Beacon, such as a hand-held Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), can be used in an emergency situation to let rescue authorities know you are in trouble and can help them find you more quickly! In the U.S., registering your beacon is required and it's free! In the event that your beacon is activated, it will give responders more information about you that can help them better assist you. Also, in the event of an accidental activation, Search and Rescue coordinators can contact you prior to dispatching rescue personnel unnecessarily. More information about beacon registration.
