Environmental Protection

Protecting our waterways from pollution and environmental degradation is a key mission of both the United States Coast Guard and the Auxiliary.  From Oil Spills and other toxins, to the spread of aquatic invasive species, the ability to enjoy recreational activities on the water is directly impacted by human-induced activities.  
The Marine Safety program of the Auxiliary includes a wide range of training and service opportunities.  These include:
Preventing the spread of Nuisance species through boater and marina education and awareness of best practices
Identifying and reporting incidents of new infestations using the iMapInvasives app technologyEngaging in manual Water Chestnut (Trapa natans) pullsSampling popular fishing and swimming locations for e coli and other bacteria
