USCG Auxiliary About Boating Safely Course


ATTENTION

 On August 6, 2019 New York State passed Brianna's Law (S.5685/A.4853.A) which will require all motorized watercraft operators to complete a state-approved boating safety course by 2025. The new requirement will be introduced in the following stages over the next five years:

  • Beginning in 2020 all motor boat operators born on or after January 1, 1993 must complete a boaters safety course.
  • Beginning in 2022 all motor boat operators born on or after January 1, 1988 must complete a boaters safety course.
  • Beginning in 2023 all motor boat operators born on or after January 1, 1983 must complete a boaters safety course.
  • Beginning in 2024 all motor boat operators born on or after January 1, 1978 must complete a boaters safety course.
  • In 2025, all motor boat operators must have completed a state-approved boaters safety course must regardless of age.

Failure to comply with the law could result in a fine of $100-$250 beginning in 2020.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary's "Boat America: A Course on Responsible Boating” satisfies all NY State requirements under Brianna’s Law. Classes will be offered at the American Legion Post 20 on the following dates:

 
March 16, 2024 from 0900-1800 at the American Legion (162 Quarry Rd). Cost is $30 (includes book, certificate of completion and wallet card). Lunch is provided.
