About the Auxiliary

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed, all-volunteer, civilian component of the United States Coast Guard.

Auxiliary members conduct safety patrols on local waterways, assist in Search and Rescue, teach boating safety, conduct free vessel safety checks, and provide boating safety literature.

But the Auxiliary is more than recreational boating safety; there are nearly two dozen qualifications open to Auxiliarists willing to put in the time and training.

Initial Requirements to Join

To join the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, you must be at least 17, a citizen of the United States, and have a clean criminal record.

Most importantly, you should be motivated to participate in Auxiliary missions. Specific details can be found here.
