Do you want to show your support of recreational boating safety efforts, right here in Kodiak, to make our waterways safer for everyone? If so, the Coast Guard Auxiliary wants to hear from you!

The Coast Guard Auxiliary's Recreational Boating Safety Visitation Program has the goal of educating the recreational boater about boating safety. Boating is becoming an accessible activity for more and more people each year, particularly with the increasing popularity and relatively low cost of paddlecraft. This trend underscores the importance of getting valuable and lifesaving information to boaters where they are: at your place of business. After all, informed boaters tend to be safer boaters.

How you can help:

You can give us space in your venue to display boating safety literature, which we provide at no charge to you or to the customer. If you have a bulletin board, consider allowing us to display flyers about upcoming boating safety classes or outreach events. We can even work with you to hold an outreach event at your location, which can bring in customers who will view your business as a responsible partner in boating safety.

What kinds of businesses participate in this program?

All kinds! Traditionally, our partners have included marine dealerships, repair facilities, sporting goods stores, boat rental outfits and bait shops. However, we have also gotten requests from other interested partners such as medical facilities, professional offices, restaurants, hotels/motels/lodges and big box retailers, who feel a sense of responsibility to their community and want to work with the Auxiliary to promote safe boating. Nationwide, the Auxiliary has tens of thousands of partners.

The role of the Auxiliary Program Visitor

Key to the RBS Visitation program are trained Auxiliarists who visit you on a regular basis to drop off or restock literature, or to discuss upcoming events with you. These Auxiliarists are called "Program Visitors" – short for "Recreational Boating Safety Program Dealer/Partner Visitors" – and they are the Auxiliary's ambassadors to you. No matter what kind or size of business you run, the Program Visitor is your partner in boating safety and your bridge to the Coast Guard and Auxiliary.

We distribute – always at no charge to you or your customers – the latest federal and state boating safety information, including literature on specific topics such as paddlecraft, choosing the right life jacket, or cold water boating. We can even provide our own distinctive literature rack to hold all the materials.

Sounds like fun! How do I sign up?
