Required lighting at night

Illustrates the lights you need to be boating at night

Anchoring

  • The rule of thumb is to have a 7 to 1 ratio of length of line to depth of water in normal water conditions.
  • The ratio is increased to 10 to 1 in heavy weather.
Illustrates how to anchor your boat

Boating Horn Signals

Illustrates navigational signals that should be used to communicate your intentions

Signals you should use to overtake or be overtaken by another boat

For example: If you are over taking another boat on the starboard side, provide 1 short blast on the horn.  The other boat should acknowledge you signal with 1 short blast in return.  The same move on the port side would be 2 short blasts.
