AUXSCOUTING IN SANTA CRUZ HARBOR
SO-AS: Bruce Krogstad
The members of the Ship SSS Steeves #669 are back to school after a summer of weekly training at the Santa Cruz Boys and Girls Club, a day of sailing on SF Bay and a local fishing trip on the Monterey Bay. Since the turnover in March from the Santa Cruz Fire Department the newly renamed boat BOSSO has been rebadged in honor of their former and long-time leader Jim Bosso. Space is somewhat limited on their new craft given the 3 engines (2 for propulsion and 1 to charge the fire nozzle) but they assure us that they have no current plans to do any fire fighting!
Division 6 SO-AS, Bruce Krogstad, has observed current AUX COVID19 protocols and Sea Scout youth protection guidelines so there has been limited joint activity with either of the local Flotillas (6-7 & 6-10)l to date., However, proposed plans include a Santa Cruz harbor tour of a CG facility from Station Monterey. Since on the weekends they often trailer or sail a boat and overnight at Santa Cruz Station (Small). A visit to Monterey and tour of the station and facilities is also being proposed.
With better health news ahead and relief from current restrictions in Santa Cruz County regarding vaccinations, masking, and social distancing, a closer relationship with Gold Coast members and the Ship is eagerly anticipated.
