Flotilla 16-4 Member Training
1.Check outside knife (located near the latch) for rust. Remove rust with brush. Wipe with small towel if wet. These are on the 47s
2.Make sure that each item in each pocket of the SAR Vest is attached to a lanyard and that the lanyard has the proper knots
3.Knife - If any rust is found, use brush to remove
4.PLB - Check for expirations dates for the Battery & the NOAA registration (located on the NOAA sticker). PLB number on NOAA registration sticker should match the number on the PLB (both numbers are shown on the attached photo). Lift the flap to find numbers. This is very important part of doing a Pyro Inspection. Note: We are currently working with Station Hatteras Inlet to set firm criteria for PYRO inspections. In the meantime, please confirm only the battery expiration date on the PLBs has not passed. Absence of a NOAA sticker or expiration date on the sticker will be
addressed very shortly and is not grounds for an UNSAT inspection.
5.Strobe and Mirror
- Make certain that the mirror is not cracked. Test Strobe to make certain that it lights. Place the light in the pocket upside down so that the light does not accidentally turn on
6.Whistle - Smoke/Illumination signal, line attachment - Make certain each item in in pocket with lanyards attached
7.Flare cartridge - thread the spent cartridge on the launcher after putting launcher into cocked position. Remember to uncock launcher.
8.Wipe all equipment with small towel if item is damp or wet from recent use
