"Safety through Education"
A Vessel Safety Check is an educational outreach program designed to promote recreational boating and paddle sport safety to the public. It is a FREE, courtesy, non-law enforcement program provided by both the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Power Squadron at the voluntary request of the boat owner. Our primary goal is to educate both boaters and paddlecraft enthusiasts alike on the required safety equipment for their boat or paddlecraft based upon federal, state and local requirements. Safety checks can be done on recreational boats, personal watercraft, and paddlecraft such as kayaks, canoes and standup paddle boards.
** Note: A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is solely for recreational vessels and paddle craft only! This form is NOT to be used to request an official Coast Guard inspection for any commercial vessels such as Uninspected Passenger Vessels (commonly known as six-packs), ferries or Commercial Fishing Vessels. For commercial vessel inspections, please contact the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office at (401) 435-2300.
